Tar troubles
نویسنده
چکیده
Michael Hastings graduated in Marine Biology from the University of Liverpool in 1977, and remained at the Port Erin Marine Laboratory, Isle of Man, to conduct PhD work on tidal clocks and behavioural rhythms in crustaceans. After taking a post-graduate Certificate of Education in Manchester (1980), in 1981 he moved to the Department of Anatomy in the University of Cambridge as a post-doc to work on the role of melatonin in seasonal timing in mammals. As a faculty member, working with long-term collaborator Liz Maywood, he developed an interest in the neurochemistry of the circadian clock. In 2001 he resigned his Readership in the University to take up a Group Leader position at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology (LMB), with the goal of ‘learning some molecular biology’. This ambition remains.

Extraction of oil from Canadian tar sands is becoming increasingly contentious as it is claimed the process is one of the highest in terms of greenhouse gas emissions. But now, along with environmental campaigners, some shareholders in the companies that mine and fund tar sand oil are beginning to protest at the activity. British companies spearheading the drive to exploit the Canadian tar sand...
متن کاملThe Viability of Oil Extraction from Trinidad Tar Sands by Radio Frequency Heating: A Simulation Approach
Trinidad has tar sand resources of about 2 billion barrels of oil on land in the Parrylands/Guapo and Brighton areas. With an oil price of over USD 25 per barrel, the commercial extraction of oil from Trinidad tar sands is viable, but it requires a careful study. The relatively small extent of this tar sand (about 10,000 acres and with depths varying from surface to less than 500 feet) and with...
متن کاملA proposed "osi based" network troubles identification model
The OSI model, developed by ISO in 1984, attempts to summarize complicated network cases on layers. Moreover, network troubles are expressed by taking the model into account. However, there has been no standardization for network troubles up to now. Network troubles have only been expressed by the name of the related layer. In this paper, it is pointed out that possible troubles on the related ...

متن کاملThe Effect of Erosion on Corrosion Protection Properties of Coal Tar Epoxy Coating
In this work, the effect of erosion on corrosion behavior of coal tar epoxy coating was evaluated using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The surface morphology of the coating was examined by scanning electron microscope (SEM) after 10, 20, 30, 45 and 60 min of erosion process at an impact angle of 90º. After 10 min of erosion process, the Nyquist plots showed just a si...
